Musical mystic

Jain Ascetic

Vashava's spiritual journey involving his traditional wooden flutes began shortly after he dedicated himself to the practice of Jain ascetics, in 2005. It was then that Vashava renounced his worldly attachments to cultivate the universal oneness embodied by the Jain philosophy. Vashava jettisoned all comforts of the modernist lifestyle, retreating to a small parcel of property he purchased within the splendor of the Roosevelt National Forest, just a stone's throw from the Continental Divide.

Over time, Vashava's practice of Jain ascetics enabled him to become one with nature. Yet, the enlightenment he sought eluded him. He began playing the flute in 2007, initially mimicking the styles of accomplished Blues and folk musicians. In 2010, while performing at the University of Denver, Vashava first achieved the enlighted state of Jain Nirvana. Vashava was enveloped by Nirvana during that performance, as he delved deeply into the psychedelic and improvisational approaches that have come to define his music. While it would require many more years of discipline, Vashava eventually mastered the Jain Nirvana, as expressed through his music.

Vashava left his humble retreat along the Continental Divide in 2016, relocating to the temperate rain forests of Oregon and Washington, and the Mogollon Rim encasing the White Mountains in eastern Arizona. These pristine natural settings have fueled his musical creativity, to such an extent that Vashava began recording his transcendent music in a studio setting, in 2023. Vashava has amassed a catalog of transcendental/psychedelic music that continues to flourish with each recording session.

Vashava is honored to share with you the music he has created through the enlightment of his practice as a musical mystic and Jain ascetic.
