Vashava's "Folken Aye!" EP features his works on traditional wooden flutes that hone in on several folk music genres. "Superficial Thistle" features Vashava's G major Spanish cedar double/drone flute, and draws upon the rich traditions of Irish folk music. "Callin' Courtney" is performed on an F sharp aromatic cedar flute, and is rooted in the traditional Blues style of America's Old South. "Cyclin Jim" is representative of modern alternative folk music, and is performed on Vashava's B minor bass flute. The "Big G Boogie" highlights the sharp and edgy tones of Vashava's G major madrone burlwood flute, and is emblematic of the edy Chicago Jazz genre. Lastly, "Purring Pumas" relies heavily upon the atonal harmonic vibes of Vashava's G major Spanish cedar double/drone flute, and hits the sweet spot of America's 1960s surrealistic folk movement. Vashava is delighted to share with you these novel applications of his Native American-style flutes to folk genres that, for the most part, have not featured flutes of this variety previously.
